How Many Pages Are in the Quran? (And How Long Is It?)

The Quran has either 604 pages or around 550 pages, depending on which edition you are reading. Both contain the same text; the difference is only in how the pages are formatted.

The Two Most Common Editions

The 15-Line Quran – 604 Pages. This is the most widely used edition globally, particularly in South Asia and among Muslim communities in the USA and UK. Each page contains 15 lines of Arabic text. The Quran is divided into 30 equal parts called Juzz (also written as Para), and each Juzz in this edition is exactly 20 pages, making it easy to track progress and divide reading into daily portions.

This edition is what most Huffaz and Quran students use. When someone says, “I read one Juzz today,” they are typically referring to 20 pages of this edition.

The 16-Line Quran – Around 550 Pages. Common in parts of the Middle East and some African countries. Each page has 16 lines, fitting slightly more text per page, which reduces the total page count. The content is identical, same Ayahs, same Surahs, same Tajweed markings, just a different layout.

There are also other editions with slight variations in page count depending on the publisher, font size, and margin spacing. A large-print Quran for children or elderly readers may run to 700 or more pages while still containing the same text.

The Full Structure of the Quran

ElementNumber
Juzz (Parts)30
Surahs (Chapters)114
Ayahs (Verses)6,236
WordsApproximately 77,430
LettersApproximately 323,671
Pages (15-line edition)604
Pages (16-line edition)~550

These figures are consistent across all authentic editions. Minor differences of a few Ayahs in the count exist between scholars based on how certain Ayahs are divided, but 6,236 is the most widely accepted number.

How Long Does It Take to Read the Quran

Knowing the page count makes it easy to calculate reading time.

An average reader reciting at a measured pace, applying basic Tajweed without rushing, reads roughly one page in 3 to 4 minutes. At that pace:

  • One Juzz (20 pages): approximately 60 to 80 minutes
  • Full Quran (604 pages): approximately 30 to 40 hours total

This is why many Muslims complete one full reading of the Quran during Ramadan by reading one Juzz per day, 30 days, 30 Juzz, one complete Quran.

Breaking it down further:

  • Read 1 page daily — complete in approximately 20 months
  • Read 2 pages daily — complete in approximately 10 months
  • Read 1 Juzz daily — complete in 30 days

These calculations assume you can already read Arabic with reasonable fluency. If you are still learning to read, our post on how long it takes to read the full Quran covers the full learning journey timeline from beginner to fluent recitation.

The Quran and Memorization

The same page structure helps Hifz students track their memorization progress. A student memorizing half a page daily completes the full Quran in approximately 3 to 3.5 years. One page daily brings that to roughly 20 months.

For anyone working toward full Quran memorization, our post on how long it takes to memorize the Quran gives a detailed breakdown by age and daily commitment — using the same page-based calculations above.

Why the Page Count Matters for Learners

Understanding the structure of the Quran helps learners set realistic goals.

A new student who knows the Quran has 30 Juzz of 20 pages each can immediately plan: if I read one page per class session, I cover half a Juzz per week. That kind of concrete goal-setting is what turns Quran learning from an overwhelming idea into a manageable, trackable journey.

Our Quran reading course structures progress exactly this way, tracking pages covered per session and setting weekly targets that keep students moving forward at a pace that suits their level.

FAQs on total pages in the Quran

Why do different Qurans have different page counts?

Different publishers use different font sizes, line spacing, and margin sizes. The text itself, every Ayah and Surah, is identical across all authentic editions. Only the physical layout changes.

How many pages is one Juzz?

In the standard 15-line edition, one Juzz is exactly 20 pages. This consistent division makes it easy to plan daily reading targets.

How long does it take to memorize one page of the Quran?

For a beginner, roughly one to two weeks per page with daily practice. For an intermediate student, three to five days. Speed increases significantly as the student builds familiarity with Quranic vocabulary and Arabic letter patterns. See our Quran memorization course for a structured approach to building this pace.

Is the Quran the same in all countries?

Yes. The text of the Quran has remained unchanged since it was compiled during the time of Caliph Uthman ibn Affan (may Allah be pleased with him). Different editions vary only in page layout, font, and whether Tajweed colour-coding is included.
